| Biography |
| Dr. Patrick
Quaranta received both a B.S. in Biology and a
B.A. in Philosophy from Villanova University in
1968. After attending the Monmouth University Graduate
School of Education in 1969, he entered New Jersey
Dental School where he received a D.M.D. degree
in 1972. Upon graduation from dental school, Dr.
Quaranta owned and operated a private dental practice
on a full time basis for 29 years while teaching
one and then three days per week at the New Jersey
Dental School. He then joined the faculty on a
full time basis in 2001. Dr. Quaranta completed
a two-year residency certificate program in Oro-Facial
Pain at the New Jersey Dental School in 1992. In
1993, Dr. Quaranta entered the Kean University
Graduate School of Psychology where he received
an M.A degree in Behavioral Sciences and Clinical
Psychology in 1997. In 1998, he was elected to
membership in Omicron Kappa Epsilon, the national
honor society of the dental profession. In 1999
he was elected to Fellowship in the International
College of Dentists (FICD) and in 2002, became
a Fellow in the American College of Dentists (FACD).
Dr. Quaranta is a two-time recipient of the Foundation
of the University of Medicine and Dentistry Excellence
in Teaching Award, the Irwin Quinn Teaching Excellence
Award, and was elected to the Master Educators'
Guild as a charter member in 2000. He has been
published in the area of immunizations for oral
health care workers and has performed original
research as principal investigator in studies involving
anxiety, depression and phobias. Dr. Quaranta is
presently involved in clinical and didactic teaching
at NJDS. He has served as course director for several
major courses at the dental school, including Problem-Based
Learning and Dental Radiology. Dr. Quaranta also
yearly presents several Continuing Dental Education
Courses (CDE) for practitioners through the UMDNJ
department of Continuing Education. These courses
include Dental Treatment for Medically Complex
Patients, Treating Patients with Mental Disorders,
Clinical Decision Making, Evidence Based Dentistry,
Controversies in Dentistry, and Smoking Cessation
Programs for the Dental Practice. |
