Biography
Dr. Nancy R Stevenson is a Professor in the Physiology and Biophysics Department, and an Associate Professor the Biochemistry Department at UMDNJ-RWJMS. She is also a member of the Nutritional Science Graduate Program, Rutgers University and of the Physiology and Integrative Biology Graduate Program. She received her B.S. Degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1960, and her MS and PhD Degrees from Rutgers, 1963 and 1969. Her professional teaching started at Ewing Jr. High School in 1960, and has continued to the present time. Currently she is a teacher in the Biochemical Basis of Nutrition and in the Medical Physiology courses, as well as Course Director and teacher in the Medical Physiology course, 1st year PA Program. She has received Grant Funding to support her basic research activities, development of a Nutrition Education Program at RWJMS, curricular development and production of teaching videos. Dr. Stevenson reviews manuscripts in her research area, nutrition and medical education, for various journals. She has published her research and educational activities, and been invited to present oral presentations at scientific meetings, academic institutions, local groups, and radio and television talk shows. Dr. Stevenson has been involved in service activities for her Department, and at the local, state and national level. She served on the USMLE Step 1 Physiology Test Material Development Committee and on the NBME's Physiology Test Committee; and was elected to the Board of Directors, University of Northern Iowa, Ross Nielsen Price Lab. Sch. Fund. She has received several honors and awards: NIH Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships; the first Simon Kamorov Award from the Philadelphia Gastrointestinal Research Forum; the UMDNJ Exceptional Merit Award (1981); Teaching and Service Incentive Awards from RWJMS (1988, 1991 and 1993); Gender Equity Award (AMWA, 1995); University Marshal for the 2005 UMDNJ Commencement. She was inducted into the Master Educator Guild in 2001 and served as President in 2004-2005. Dr Stevenson continues teaching, mentoring new teaching faculty and working on curriculum development.
