Biography
Marian R. Stuart, Ph.D. is Clinical Professor and Director of Behavioral Science in the Department of Family Medicine, UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Stuart received her Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Summa Cum Laude, from Kean College in 1971. Her Masters Degree in 1973 and her Ph.D. in Social/Personality Psychology in 1975 are both from Rutgers University. Principal author of The Fifteen Minute Hour: Applied Psychotherapy for the Primary Care Physician, (3rd Edition in press) she has presented internationally in areas of communications skills, mind-body medicine, geriatrics, family dynamics, stress management and medical education. Additionally, she maintains a small private practice as a Licensed Psychologist in Morristown, NJ. Dr. Stuart chaired the Education Committee, and was a member of the Board of Directors of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) for 4 years. She currently serves as a Trustee of the STFM Foundation. In 1997, STFM accorded Dr. Stuart its highest honor, the Excellence in Education Award. She is a charter member and the Vice President for Finance of the Master Educators Guild of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. More recently, the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) House of Delegates at their 2001 Annual Meeting took the extraordinary step of electing Dr. Stuart to Honorary Membership in their organization.
