| Biography |
| Dr. John A.
Walker is Professor of Medicine at Robert Wood
Johnson Medical School and is Chief of the Department
of Medicine's Division of Education. He received
his BA degree, summa cum laude, from Long Island
University and his MD degree from the State University
of New York, Downstate Medical Center College of
Medicine. His residency training at the Bridgeport
Hospital-Yale University affiliated program in
Internal Medicine was followed by a fellowship
in Nephrology at Montefiore Hospital & Medical
Center. Dr. Walker joined the faculty of UMDNJ-Robert
Wood Johnson Medical School (then CMDNJ-Rutgers
Medical School) in 1981. He has been the Director
of the Third Year Clerkship in Medicine at RWJMS-New
Brunswick since 1994, and has been the Director
of the Nephrology Fellowship at RWJMS-New Brunswick
since 1989. In 2001 he was appointed Director of
the second year Clinical Pathophysiology course.
He has been a member of the RWJMS Academic Standing
Committee since 1995, and currently serves as Chair
of that committee. His educational interests include
medical student evaluation and course administration,
and he has worked closely with the RWJMS Offices
of Education and Student Affairs to integrate standards
of professionalism into the medical curriculum.
Dr. Walker is Board Certified in Internal Medicine
and Nephrology. His clinical research activities
involve the mentorship of nephrology fellows investigating
various aspects of the care of patients with chronic
kidney disease. He is a past President of the Nephrology
Society of New Jersey and is a Fellow of the American
Society of Nephrology. He also is a Fellow of the
American College of Physicians (ACP) and serves
as RWJMS liaison to the Executive Council of the
New Jersey Chapter of the ACP, where he administers
an annual Summer Preceptorship program for first
year medical students. |
