Biography
Dr. Joel O'Hara Martin is a tenured Associate Professor and Director of Predoctoral Prosthodontic Education in the Restorative Dentistry Department of the UMDNJ - New Jersey Dental School. He received his DDS in 1974 from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and Master of Science degree in Oral Biology from Temple University in 1982. He obtained his specialty-training certificate in Removable Prosthodontics from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1979. Dr. Martin has been involved as a clinician, educator and administrator in dental education for 30 years. At UMDNJ - NJDS, he has served in various capacities, including Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Acting Chairman of the Department of General and Hospital Dentistry and Director of the Operative Dentistry Division of the Department of Restorative Dentistry. Currently, he is Vice-Chairman and Course Director of Sophomore Removable Partial Dentures, Junior Prosthodontics Clinic and Senior Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics Clinics in the Department of Restorative Dentistry. He has published or presented over 25 abstracts and papers and has held numerous national and state professional association offices. He is a two-time winner of the NJDS Excellence in Teaching Award and was among those named to the inaugural class of the UMDNJ Master Educators' Guild in 2000. Other honors include induction as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists in 1985 and Fellow of the American College of Dentists in 1991. His primary areas of teaching expertise include complete and removable partial dentures. His primary research interests are in the design and application of interactive digital imaging in prosthodontics.
