| Biography |
| Dr. Gloria J.
McNeal received her BS degree from Villanova University
College of Nursing, and earned her MS in nursing
and PhD in higher education administration at the
University of Pennsylvania. Her dissertation, which
researched the scholarly productivity of African
American women nurse faculty in the United States,
was awarded with meritorious distinction. A well
recognized academician, she has served as a member
of the nursing faculty at several universities
including the Rutgers University College of Nursing,
University of Pennsylvania, Thomas Jefferson University,
and the Community College of Philadelphia. At UMDNJ,
Dr. McNeal serves as Assistant Dean for Student
Affairs, where she has successfully acquired nearly
$1,000,000 in HRSA funding to establish traineeships
and a Center for Academic Support Services for
ethnically diverse students. The author of over
85 publications, she has received national recognition
for her outstanding contributions to the field
of nursing as an educator, clinician, and researcher.
Her published works have appeared in Nursing Clinics
of North America, Critical Care Nurse, AJN, Journal
of Cultural Diversity, Image, The ABNF Journal,
and Computers in Nursing. For over 30 years her
research work has investigated the clinical application
of telecommunication technologies and the use of
high-technology in the home setting. Her expertise
in this emerging field was recognized by the American
Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), which
sponsored the publication of her book entitled
AACN Guide to Acute Care Procedures in the Home.
Dr. McNeal has served at the national level on
committees of numerous associations including the
American Nurses Association, the National League
for Nursing, the American Association of Critical
Care Nurses, and the Association of Black Nursing
Faculty in Higher Education. Additionally, she
currently serves on the editorial boards of the
Journal of Cultural Diversity and the ABNF Journal.
Highly regarded by students, she is the recipient
of over 20 Teaching Excellence Awards conferred
by the faculties of several institutions of higher
education. Dr. McNeal also has been recognized
as a recipient of prestigious national awards bestowed
by renowned academic and professional organizations,
including the University of Pennsylvania School
of Nursing's Outstanding Alumni Award, the American
Academy of Nursing's coveted Media Award, and the
Rutgers University Paul Robeson Faculty Excellence
Award. In 2005 Dr. McNeal was elected to the UMDNJ
Master Educators' Guild and also honored for her
contributions to the field of nursing at the Don
and Diva Gala Celebration, sponsored by the Board
of Trustees of the Institute for Nursing, the Foundation
of the New Jersey State Nurses Association. |
