| Biography |
| Dr. Elaine Keohane
has been a faculty member at the University of
Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - School of
Health Related Professions for 30 years. She is
a Professor in the Department of Clinical Laboratory
Sciences, the Director of the Medical Laboratory
Science Program since 1987 and the Clinical Laboratory
Sciences Track Coordinator for the MS in Health
Sciences Program since 2002. She received her PhD
in Biological Science in 1995 from Rutgers University,
Graduate School-Newark, her Master of Science in
Bacteriology in 1980 from Wagner College and her
Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Education in 1972
from Montclair State College. She also completed
her professional education in Medical Technology
at Bergen Pines County Hospital in 1973. Dr. Keohane
holds certification as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist
and a Medical Technologist and has specialty certification
as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in Hematology
and Molecular Biology. Her research interests have
been concentrated on the molecular characterization
of the invasion apparatus of Microsporidia, a protozoan
pathogen, and she was the recipient of the SHRP
Dean?s Award in Research in 1996. Dr. Keohane is
active in both the American Society for Clinical
Laboratory Science (serving as Vice-Chairman of
its Leadership Development Committee) and New Jersey
Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, for which
she has served as President, Board Member and Chairman
of various committees, most recently its Leadership
Development Committee. Dr. Keohane has extensive
experience in course and program development and
administration, which includes on-campus lecture
and laboratory courses, and recently Web-based
instruction. She has presented numerous continuing
education workshops and seminars on the local,
regional and national level. She received the SHRP
Excellence in Teaching Award twice, and was the
recipient of the Educator of the Year Award from
the NJ Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. |
