| Biography |
| David S. Kountz,
MD is Associate Professor of Medicine; Chief of
the Division of Primary Care, Department of Medicine;
Associate Dean for Postgraduate Education, and
Medical Director, Robert Wood Johnson - University
Medical Group. He joined RWJMS in 1996 after spending
3 years as Associate Chief, General Internal Medicine
at Temple University School of Medicine. Dr. Kountz
attended Princeton University and medical school
at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
He completed his housestaff training in Internal
Medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital, and
stayed on the faculty in various educational capacities,
including Residency Director. During his tenure
at Hahnemann he completed a faculty development
fellowship at Michigan State University, as well
as a non-degreed fellowship in healthcare management
from the University of North Carolina. Dr. Kountz's
major educational interests include leadership
development among residents, and the interface
of resident educational needs and managed care
organizations (MCOs). He has been funded by the
Pew Charitable Trusts to study the impact of interactions
between MCOs and residency programs. He oversees
the School's annual Chief Resident Retreat. Other
research interests include diabetes care in managed
care settings. Since 1998 he has been a funded-investigator
by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
in a multi-centered study evaluating the impact
of managed care programs on clinical outcomes in
diabetes. Dr. Kountz can be heard on two New Jersey
radio stations. He hosts a monthly health affairs
show involving medical school faculty (WCTC - 1450
AM), and writes and delivers a daily health update
on NJ 101.5 FM. In 2000 Dr. Kountz received the
Francis Black Humanitarian Award in Healthcare
from the Friends' Health Connection, and delivered
the keynote address for Schools' White Coat Ceremony.
In 2002 he received an Award of Honor from Robert
Wood Johnson University Hospital. Dr. Kountz is
a Fellow of the American College of Physicians
and the Association of Academic Minority Physicians. |
