| Biography |
| Bernadette West
is an Assistant Professor in the UMDNJ School of
Public Health, in the Health Systems and Policy
Department in Piscataway. She was recently appointed
Assistant Dean of the Stratford/Camden campus and
Community Health of the UMDNJ-School of Public
Health. Prior to joining the School of Public Health,
Dr. West served as Executive Director of the Mid-State
Health Advisory Corporation (LAB IV), where she
was responsible for regional health planning for
a four county region in central New Jersey. She
is also an associate member of the faculty of the
Graduate School -New Brunswick, Rutgers, The State
University of New Jersey. Dr. West continues to
hold a secondary faculty appointment in the Department
of Environmental and Community Medicine, UMDNJ-Robert
Wood Johnson Medical School. Her research interests
include community health assessment, disabilities
and violence. Dr. West served as Chief Faculty
Advisor to students in the Homeless and Indigent
Population Health Outreach Project (HIPHOP) for
the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School from 1997
to 2003. Dr. West has launched new faculty mentoring
initiatives within the School of Public Health
that provide learn and serve opportunities for
students, including development of a new community
service organization-Volunteer Opportunities in
Community Engaged Service or VOICES. Dr. West received
her Ph.D. degree in Planning and Public Policy
in 1992 from Rutgers University and a Masters in
Sociology from the American University in Washington,
DC. |
