| Biography |
| Dr. Asha Samant
received her undergraduate and postgraduate degree
from Government Dental College, Amritsar, Panjab,
India, after which she completed the NYU School
of Dentistry Graduate Certificate Program in Prosthodontics,
where she also served as a teaching fellow. Subsequently,
she completed the DMD Program at UMDNJ - New Jersey
Dental School (NJDS) and in 1981 joined its faculty,
where she is now a tenured associate professor.
While teaching Prosthodontics at UMDNJ, she has
completed a TMJ Residency at NJDS, and a fellowship
for disabled and handicapped patients at the University
of Washington. Dr. Samant is a fellow of the Academy
of Dentistry International (FADI) and International
College of Dentists (FICD) and been recognized
for her extensive involvement in community service
via the Recognition Pin and the Alpha Key from
the town of Livingston, NJ. Dr. Samant has authored
or co-authored over 60 publications in referred
journals, received numerous grants, provided dozens
of presentations at national and international
conferences and has been very active in professional
organizations, especially in the area of women's
oral health issues. During her teaching career,
Dr. Samant has served as course directors for six
different predoctoral courses and has been involved
in both pre- and postdoctoral courses as clinical
instructor, mentor, confidant and research participant.
In recognition of her teaching excellence, Dr.
Samant has been received the NJDS Excellence in
Teaching Award three times and was selected for
the UMDNJ Master Educators Guild Award in 2004. |
